General Description

The Image Reference is our flagship. It is a no-compromise speaker designed for use in the very best music and home theatre systems.

From the selected tweeter that weighs in at a hefty 1.2kg; the two midrange drivers that work in a complex heavily damped mechanical sub-enclosure; to the phenomenal purpose built side firing subwoofer, the Reference boasts high power handling, dynamics, an extended frequency range and excellent dispersion characteristics.

The enclosure is very heavily braced internally to prevent any movement in the cabinet walls. An additional mass-loaded material with a very high specific gravity is literally trowelled on by hand within both midrange and bass sub-enclosures to prevent sound travelling through the cabinet walls and adding to 'the driver sound'. The internal bracing and mass-loaded material create and optimum inert enclosure that has no 'signature'.

For the 'two section' midrange sub-enclosure, varying densities of wool blend are employed as acoustic damping to diffract and absorb soundwaves travelling through it. The bass sub-enclosure has the same acoustic damping material and once again, density varies with cabinet position.

Like all Image floor-standing loudspeaker models, the Reference has a base section hand-packed with small grain sand that adds mass and absorbs cabinet energy.
